Stately Home of Martelo
The Martelo stately home is the most interesting monument of this kind in Rianxo. Nowadays it belongs to the council, but in the past the owner was the first lord of Rianxo, Pablo Gómez de Soutomaior, known as the Chariño.
It was built in the 15th century and it was formed just by one tower. The owner adquired the neighbouring houses and in that place he built the big monument, next to the tower. All through time the stately home was reformed in many occassions and it was even abandoned during some time, although then it was adquired by the council. The present day building is formed by a ground plan in a right angle, with two main façades of different dimensions. The façade placed in the Church’s square stands out for the continuous balcony, whereas the one which faces the alley highlights for the beautiful ornamentations carved in the stone.
