Stately Home of Goiáns
The Goiáns stately home is a typical sailor’s home placed by the Coroño river. The Goián’s entailed estate was founded in the middle of the 16th century by Fandiño Gayoso with the purpose of exploiting the shellfish beds which could be found near the house. Doing it in this way he could exploit the beds without the threat of lawsuits. During the Irmadiñas riots a great part of the stately home was destroyed and it wouldn’t be restored until the 17th cent by Domingo de Andrade. All through history it had different owners as for example the Barrié de la Maza, who were frequently visited there by Alfonso XII.
The stately home has a L-shapped plant, with a square tower crowned by a viewpoint with balustrade at one side. In the façade there can be found the coat of arms of some of the most important families of the county, as the Soutomaior, the Caamaño, the Mariño, the Ulloa, the Lamas, the Mendoza or the Gaioso.
As most of the stately homes of the place, this is a complex formed by many decorative and functional buildings. Behind the walls with crenellations of the property, passing through the sober iron gate, we find the garden, the wine cellars, the family home, a chapel, a raised granary, a dovecot, stables, the portico, the fountain and a beautiful pier that descends to the garden, passing through the vineyards.
