Mills and Dovecots, of Rianxo
Mills

From the 11th to the 12th century there began to be frequent the presence of the water mills in Rianxo. There were functional and small constructions devoted to the grinding of the grain taking advantage of the energy that water generates through movement. Nowadays there are few mills preserved. To be exactly there are 41, between them just one or two work out more as an attempt to preserve the old traditions than as a way of producing flour.

Dovecots

Although the breeding of doves was a frequent activity in Galicia during the 18th and the 19th century, it was not really profitable. Traditional dovecotes were usually present in the lands of the stately homes, the rectories or the large country houses. In Rianxo there are preserved 34 dovecotes (some of them with an antiquity of more than 150 years). They present a characteristic masonry cylindrical part and they are ceiling horseshoe-shaped. There were several ways in for the doves and a cornice where they could fly off. In the O Araño dovecote, there can be seen the usual internal structure of these constructions. There were nests inserted in the wall and small way in doors.
