San Isidro de Posmarcos

( In the town of San Isidro, 3km north-eastward from the urban area ).
From the ancient Romanesque temple it has been preserved a door in the North wall and two of the consecration crosses placed at the main door’s jambs. The current building is the direct consequence of the many restorations suffered during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Its basic structure has a unique nave divided in three stretches by semicircular arches, a rectangular chancel and a sacristy.
In the main façade we see the entrance door, with its moulding jambs, lintel and popular relieves. We wish to emphasise the figure with the chalice and the consecrated wafer; another one with an arm holding a priest prop (the parish was for the presentation of St. Martín Pinario Abbey). Between both figures stands out the bust of a mitred character, also holding a prop and keeping a blessing attitude, who is believed to be St. Isidoro Bishop. Finally, under the window, there is a battered image of the Virgin of the Socorro. According to the inscription the façade was built in 1600.
At the right side, lined up with the sacristy, it is the bell tower’s volume. The bulrush scrolls were dated in the late 18th century.
In the main chancel there is a simple neoclassical altarpiece, which stands out for its use of the paintings simulating the veined jasper.
