Celtic hillforts of Neixón, in Boiro
The most important Celtic site of Boiro is found in Quinteiro, in the parish of Cespón, concretely in the rock peninsula of Neixón. The whole site is formed by Castro Pequeno, Castro Grande and a wall built 2500 years ago and which was supposed to be inhabited from the 7th century BC to the 4th century AC.
The excavations allow that the houses and the walled perimeter can be saw, exhuming a great amount of objects that are an evidence of the Celtic culture. After the first excavations, the site was abandoned and almost destroyed by the weeds. After this period of oblivion, the site was recovered again and improved with the installation of informative panels.
Near the site is where the Archaeological Centre of A Barbanza is placed, one of the main tourist attractions of A Barbanza. It organises the routes through the sites of the county and other activities as, for example, the audio-visual projections, conferences, workshop, etc. The building of modernistic architecture has a room for a permanent exhibition of the collection: extracted pieces of the sites of A Barbanza, models, reproductions, etc..
